CONNECTICUT COLLEGE STUDENTS JOIN FORCES TO SUPPORT RENEWABLE ENERGY

San Francisco, CA - April 10, 2006 - To collectively make large positive change, Connecticut College and its students committed to purchasing renewable energy certificates (RECs) from 3 Phases Energy to support wind energy equal to approximately 50% of the college's annual electricity consumption.

The purchase of 7.5 million kilowatt hours of RECs originated from a student-led initiative where each student pays $25 per year surcharge to support the production of renewable energy. The Green-eŽ certified wind RECs support the growth of new wind farms and prevent the release of over 10 million pounds of greenhouse gasses from entering the atmosphere. This has an equivalent environmental benefit to removing 978 cars from U.S. roadways or planting 1,281 acres of trees.

Connecticut College's commitment to wind energy highlights a growing trend on campuses nationwide for supporting clean, sustainable energy resources. These initiatives are commonly lead by students who believe that their schools and student bodies should be an example for other schools, as well as other businesses and individuals, to follow. 3 Phases Energy also provides RECs to Northwestern University and Tufts University.

"Connecticut College has been a national leader in the field of renewable energy for the last three years," said Steve McDougal, Senior Manager of Business Development. "3 Phases Energy is thrilled to be partnering with the College to build awareness for renewable energy that ultimately helps to build new wind farms across the country."

The support of renewable energy is part of the College's big picture efforts to become more environmentally sustainable. Through energy efficiency programs and student outreach, it has made significant reductions to its overall electricity consumption and saved thousands of dollars.

While the college is purchasing wind energy credits to offset its electricity usage, its faculty, staff and students are working hard to reduce their electricity usage.

"Our purchase of renewable energy certificates reaffirms the College's commitment to be a model for environmental sustainability," said Connecticut College Vice President for Administration, Ulysses Hammond.
